January Rhode Island Chapter - Surfrider Foundation Meeting Minutes (meeting) January 15, 2008, 6:00pm - 7:30pm
General Items of Discussion:
• The Rhode Island Chapter recently launched its new website – you can check it out at http://www.risurfrider.org. While there are still some minor details to be tweaked, we encourage you to take a look and let us know what you think. There is also a blog that can be accessed from the home page.
• Funding for the preservation of the land at Point Judith did not go through. The Rhode Island Chapter plans to stay involved in this process and fully supports the Nulman Family’s wishes of keeping this open access space. Thank you to Carol Nulman for her gracious support of the Rhode Island Chapter.
• The Rhode Island Chapter will be working with Teton Gravity to host a movie premiere in Rhode Island this coming June. The event will take place in either Narragansett or Newport with some of Billabong’s team riders making an appearance.
• The State of Rhode Island is in the exploratory stages of looking at renewable wave energy – more details to come.
• Jackie, from Mystic Aquarium’s Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Stranding Program, hosted a training session at the January meeting. Rhode Island Chapter members were eligible to sign up as volunteer first responders following the meeting.
Committee Updates:
• Blue Water Task Force: Next water testing to take place on Saturday, January 26, 2008.
• Adopt-A-Spot: Next cleanup to take place at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 3, 2008 at Second Beach in Newport.

• Website Launch Party: Will take place Saturday, February 9, 2008 - stay tuned for more details!
• Seal Watch: A Seal Watch is planned for members of the Rhode Island Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation in appreciation of their time and efforts; this event will take place on March 8th at 2:00PM in Newport.
• Earth Day Cleanup: Will take place Saturday, April 5, 2008.
