About RI Programs
Rhode Island Surfrider Foundation has a variety of programs in which its members can become involved. These programs represent the core of Surfrider and allow our members to become active within the local community. Our chapter works tirelessly towards the goal of protecting Rhode Island's oceans, waves and beaches. Current Programs
Blue Water Taskforce
The Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) is a nationally supported Surfrider Foundation program utilized by individual chapters to monitor water quality, raise awareness towards coastal water pollution and advocate for state supported monitoring programs. Rhode Island Surfrider Foundation currently tests twelve locations on a monthly basis from May through October. Beachscape
Rhode Island's coastline is a unique and ever-changing environment. As surfers and water enthusiasts, Rhode Island Surfrider members are often in-tune with many of the changes affecting the health of our coastline. Through the Beachscape program, Surfrider volunteers help to compile information about the Rhode Island coastline annually, which in turn helps to define patterns and trends in the coast's health.... | more |
Respect The Beach
Rhode Island Surfrider believes in educating today’s youth about tomorrow’s oceans through its coastal education program, Respect the Beach. Aimed at youngsters in grades K-12, Surfrider volunteers visit local classrooms to educate students about coastal watershed processes, shoreline ecology and coastal stewardship.... | more |
Beach Cleanups
Pollution is a huge detriment to our coastal waters and to our health. The Rhode Island Surfrider Foundation recognizes the importance of keeping local beaches and surf breaks clean and does its part by planning regular cleanups along the Rhode Island coastline. Storm Drain Labeling
Did you know that a major contributor to water pollution is each and every one of us? That’s right – pollutants run off our streets and landscapes and eventually lead back into the ocean.
